Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how NiceHuman (“we,” “us,” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on the Cairn website at cairn.pet and in the Cairn application at app.cairn.pet, including the pet owner and clinic portals. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website places on your device. Cookies set by the site you are visiting are first-party cookies; cookies set by anyone else are third-party cookies. Related technologies include local and session storage in your browser, tracking pixels in pages and emails, and browser fingerprinting. This policy covers all of them.

The short version

• The website at cairn.pet sets no cookies at all, and uses no pixels, fingerprinting, or analytics. The only thing it stores in your browser is the day or night scene you choose with the button in the footer, if you choose one.
• The application sets only first-party cookies: the ones needed to keep you signed in and to protect your session, plus, if you choose them, a remember-me cookie and your display preferences.
• We use no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, and no third-party cookies anywhere.

Cookies we use

Strictly necessary cookies (application only)

When you sign in to the application, it sets first-party cookies that identify your session and protect it against cross-site request forgery. They last for the session or until you sign out, and cannot be switched off without breaking sign-in. Under the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive these cookies do not require consent, because they are essential to provide the service you have asked for. They contain no tracking identifiers and are not shared with anyone.

Cookies you choose (application only)

Two kinds of cookie are set only when you ask for them. If you tick “remember me” when signing in, the application sets a cookie that keeps you signed in on that device between browser sessions; signing out removes it. If you change a display setting, such as the colour theme, the application stores that preference in a cookie for up to a year so it is applied on your next visit. Both are first-party, are read only by our servers, and contain no tracking identifiers. Because you set them yourself, they are used only to provide the feature you asked for.

Local storage on the website (your choice only)

The website shows a morning or night scene depending on the time of day. If you pick one yourself, using the sun or moon in the picture or the button in the footer, the website remembers that choice in your browser’s local storage under the name “cairn-scene”. It holds only the word “morning” or “night”, is read only by the page itself, is never sent to our servers or anyone else, and is removed when you switch the scene back to automatic or clear your browser’s site data. If you never pick a scene, nothing is stored.

Analytics and advertising cookies

We do not use any. We don’t use Google or Facebook analytics, we don’t serve ads, and we don’t build profiles of visitors or users.

Consent

Because every cookie we set is either strictly necessary or one you asked for by choosing a setting, you will not see a cookie banner on our site or in the application, and there are no separate cookie preferences to manage: sign out to remove the remember-me cookie, change your display settings to change the preference cookies, and switch the website’s scene back to automatic to clear the stored scene. If we ever introduce cookies that need consent, we will ask for it first and update this policy.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can view, block, or delete cookies through your browser’s settings:

Blocking cookies has no effect on the website; blocking local storage only means the scene you pick is not remembered on your next visit. Blocking them for app.cairn.pet will prevent you from staying signed in to the application or saving display preferences.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not track visitors, so there is nothing for these signals to switch off. Our behaviour is the same whether or not your browser sends them.

Children

The Service is intended for businesses and adults, and we do not knowingly use cookies to collect information from anyone under 18.

International transfers

Our cookies are read only by our own servers, which are hosted by Cloudflare in the United States. No cookie data is passed to third parties. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle international transfers generally.

Changes to this policy

If our use of cookies changes we will update this page and its “Last updated” date, and, where the change requires consent, ask for it before setting any new cookie.
